For this reason, the company upgraded their handheld terminal software by migrating from an older Windows platform to a more modern Android solution from Delfi Technologies.

A smooth and seamless migration

Scanel International A/S chose Delfi Technologies as the supplier of the company’s new handheld terminal solution back in 2004, a solution that was based on Windows at that time. In January 2024, this solution was upgraded to an Android-based platform. This shift has not only improved their system’s performance but has also opened opportunities for the use of terminals and software at remote locations such as construction sites and port areas. The new handheld terminals (model: Delfi PM85) can use SIM cards, allowing repair technicians to easily use the solution even when they are at a construction site.

Switching from Windows handheld terminals to Android handheld terminals has several advantages, especially in terms of efficiency, flexibility, and user-friendliness. The Android platform offers a newer technological infrastructure compared to older Windows systems. This means that Android handheld terminals typically have more modern hardware and software with faster performance, better battery life, and improved user-friendliness.

The migration from Windows to Android solution has been a success for Scanel International A/S. The seamless transition has allowed them to continue their operations without disruptions and has simultaneously improved the company’s efficiency.

Effective case management and inventory management

The handheld terminals precisely fit the company’s needs and requirements. These terminals allow for effective case management and inventory management. The devices are largely used to facilitate case management by picking components from inventory for use, for example, on ships under repair.

Accurate registration of goods is a significant advantage for repair technicians when using the handheld terminals during picking from the inventory. By using the handheld terminals for the picking process, each component or part is registered on the spot, eliminating the risk of errors or missing information.

This accurate registration also ensures that there are no delays or misunderstandings regarding inventory and consumption of goods. Repair technicians can be confident that they have the correct components available when they need to carry out repairs or maintenance tasks on the ships.

Additionally, the handheld terminals are integrated with the company’s Microsoft Navision and are also used for inventory counts, ensuring that accurate information is maintained across the company’s various warehouses and locations. The handheld terminal can be associated with different locations, allowing inventory counts to be performed regardless of the location or warehouse they are in.
